For four decades, since 1979 in the Soviet–Afghan War, Afghanistan became a country in crisis. The Human Development Report, in 2018 stated that Statistical Update placed Afghanistan 168^th out of 189 countries in the Human Development Index. The nation’s most pressing problems include:
